Session Description: 
This session is included in AHIA Body of Knowledge Webinar Eight-Part Series which covers, at a high level, key points for topics included in the Body of Knowledge upon which the CHIAP® exam is based.  It is not intended to teach to the exam, but to the AHIA Body of Knowledge of healthcare internal auditing.  Webinar topics include: Business Aspects of Care Setting, Regulatory Environment, Compliance, Revenue Cycle, Operational/Financial Functions, Administrative Functions, and Information Technology. Participants who attend these webinars will gain a basic understanding of these areas and receive references, as needed, for further study.

The Business Aspects of Care Setting webinar will provide an overview of core and other care settings for physician practices, acute care hospitals, post-acute care, urgent care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, freestanding imaging centers, freestanding emergency departments, specialty hospitals, medical office buildings, and virtual medicine.

Learning Objectives:
Following this discussion, participants will be able to:

  • Review the attributes of select care settings.
  • Recognize some of the common risks in select care settings.
  • Discuss possible approaches to auditing these common risks.

Who should attend: Individuals working in healthcare internal audit who are preparing for the Certified Healthcare Internal Audit Professional (CHIAP) Certification exam and/or those who wish to expand their professional knowledge in the AHIA established Body of Knowledge for healthcare internal auditing.

Speaker Bio(s):
Mary Jane Schroeder, CHIAP, CIA, CRMA, CICA, Chief Audit Executive/ Director, Internal Audit, Main Line Health
Mary Jane has been with Main Line Health since April 2016 as Director of Internal Audit/Chief Audit Executive and has over 21 years of auditing experience in both the healthcare and transportation industries. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Accountancy from Villanova University and is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), a Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA), holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and is a Certified Healthcare Internal Audit Professional® (CHIAP). Prior to joining Main Line Health, Mary Jane worked for MedStar Health in Baltimore, MD, CHAN Healthcare Auditors in California at Catholic Healthcare West (now Dignity Health) and at Providence Health and Services also in California. She is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors (AHIA) where she has served as a member of the Board of Directors since January 2014, first as an At-Large Board Member and now as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board, most recently as CHair of the AHIA Board in 2019.
