Session Description: 

Culture has been a culprit for some of the highest profile corporate scandals, business failings and industrial disasters. These culture failures have had significant, detrimental effects on the organizations, their employees, customers and other stakeholders.

Social media and a continuous news cycle have only raised the stakes as organizations face unprecedented exposure to reputational harm and publish backlash. How can internal audit better understand, anticipate and help the organization prevent misconduct by using levers of culture?

  • Describe the reasons why culture is important within an organization
  • Recite the skills needed to perform culture internal audits
  • Demonstrate how an internal audit department can assist the organization define and monitor culture

Tracey Keele, CPA - KPMG US LLP
Tracey Keele, CPA, is a Partner with KPMG's Healthcare Advisory practice with over 20 years of audit, risk management and governance experience. Tracey leads KPMG's Pennsylvania Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Practice and has designed and deployed global programs for auditing culture. Tracey has also led cultural, strategic and operational transformations of a global assurance operating models.

Sean Dalton, MSc, CIA, CFE, CSBI, CRCR is a Senior Associate at KPMG's Healthcare Advisory Services practice with over 7 years of industry and advisory experience in the healthcare space within internal audit and operations. He has a background in supporting a variety of healthcare related functions including reviews of corporate culture and compliance assessments. He has a broad experience from working with clients in the life science, provider and payer sectors.
